about

‘The Long Way Home’ is the third EP by Tettrule.

All of my music, whether consciously or not, is driven by emotion. While my first two EPs dealt predominantly with grief and frustration, the overriding sentiment behind this album is hope. And let’s face it, we could all do with some of that right now.

A collection of six tracks written over six months, this EP contains all the main ingredients for a Tettrule release but is a much less bleak listen than my earlier works. Included further down is a short guide to the meaning behind each track, should you be interested in that sort of thing.

I hope you enjoy listening to 'The Long Way Home' as much as I enjoyed writing it and if it lifts your spirits, please drop me a line. It would mean the world to me to know my music has brought a smile to someone’s face.

All profits from this EP will be donated to 'Hope Not Hate'.

Everything Old is New Again
An extended intro piece to set the scene, this track starts with uplifting chords and powerful melodies which soon breakdown into chaos.

i can’t remember how I got here
Rising out of the chaos, this piece is inspired by the uneasy feeling you get when you realise you’ve been driving for miles with no recollection of the journey; a feeling which can just as easily be scaled up to life in general.

Leaving
A deliberately wonky sounding, clattering anthem for moving on. I wrote this while I was moving house and it speaks of the sadness of leaving good memories behind contrasted with the excitement of making new ones.

Surfacing
This song, more than any other on the album, is about hope. It's for those times when something unexpected happens in your life that pulls you up, shakes you off and reminds you that it's still worth bothering.

A Momentary Relapse
I thought this track sounded quite sinister but others have told me they find it very calming. Let’s go with creepy meditation music. Every sound in this piece has been chosen to feel like it could break at any moment but it continues to move on, building in power as it nears completion.

Song for Elspeth
This track is dedicated to my daughter. Out of all the music I’ve written over the years, I think it’s one of the best I’ve ever done. It’s about resilience, tenacity and surviving in the face of adversity, all of which she had in abundance.
